Fair Trade
What is Fair Trade?
The Fair Trade system is a system of
exchange based on international equitable trading standards,
ensuring all people receive fair wages, are treated with dignity,
and every business decision is based around people and
sustainability. Fair Trade uses a fairer system of exchange to
empower producers and create sustainable, positive change.

Get Involved
Fair trade organizations establish
partnerships with their suppliers and contribute to the development
of communities by approaching this as a holistic process (rather
than just a fair price). Fair trade offers great products to the
public, keeping prices affordable to consumers, but returning a
higher amount to the producers. Fair trade make a tremendous impact
on the entire community. There are many signs that indicate the
affect that the income generated has on the community. Schools &
wells are constructed; children attend school; health and
nutritional needs are cared for. Women become valued members of
their society and cultural techniques are revived.
Fair living wages are determined by various factors including skill,
amount of time and effort involved in production, minimum and living
wages in the local context, the purchasing power in a community, and
other costs of living in the local context. Wages are determined
independently from North American wage structures and are designed
to provide fair compensation based on the true cost of production.
